Catching up with Granny D
( Phoenix, AZ )Throughout the Bush administration the role of special interests in influencing policy has been hotly debated. During primary season each of the Democratic candidates has pledged in some way to distance himself from special interest money. One person who has always been troubled by the role of corporate influence in government is Dorris Haddock, also known as Granny D. After a letter-writing campaign to Congress received only cookie-cutter responses, she decided the issue needed more attention. At the age of 89, she left her home in New Hampshire and set out to walk across the country to draw attention to the need for campaign finance reform.
