Jack Sheldon, Trumpet, 1931, Jacksonville, FL

Jack began his studies on trumpet at the age of 13, and within a few years was playing professionally. In 1947 he moved to Los Angeles where for two years he attended Los Angeles City College. While serving in the air force he played in military bands until his discharge in 1952.  He worked with a group of his own and those led by Jimmy Giuffre, Curtis Counce, and Art Pepper.  During the late '50s and early '60s Jack worked with Dave Pell, Stan Kenton, Herb Geller, Wardell Gray, and Benny Goodman with whom he toured Europein 1959.  In the 1960s he became well-known as an actor and even had his own TV show," Run, Buddy, Run".  Later he played regularly on the Merv Griffin Show and recorded with big bands led by Bill Berry, Woody Herman, and again with Kenton and Herman. Sheldon's trumpet style is reminiscent of Miles Davis.

Abe Most, Clarinet, 1920, New York, NY

Abe began playing professionally at the age of sixteen, and before long was leading his own group in several popular clubs in New York.  In 1939 he went with Les Brown's orchestra as an alto sax player and vocalist.  He served in the military from 1942 to 1945. He then led his own group in Los Angeles and also played in Tommy Dorsey's orchestra.  In 1946 he returned toNew  York and led his own group again, this time at the Hickory House Cafe.  He later rejoined Brown on the West Coast for a short time, and then started with 20th Century Fox doing studio work.  He continued working as a studio musician into the 1980s.
