Kevin Eubanks, Guitar, 1957, Philadelphia, PA

While atrtending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Kevin led his own jazz-rock band.  During the late '70s he spent some time in Europe where he performed and recorded with Chris Hinze.  In 1980 he toured and recorded with Art Blakey.  By 1981 he moved to New York and worked with Roy Haynes, Ronnie Mathews, and Slide Hampton.  The following year he toured with Sam Rivers, Paquito D'Rivera, Chico Freeman and Wynton Marsalis.  In the early '80s he recorded several albums on which he demonstrated his versatility on the electric and acoustic guitar.  Today Kevin enjoys national popularity as the leader of the band on the Jay Leno Show.

Seldon Powell, Saxophone, 1928, Lawrenceville, VA

Seldon studied classical music in New York before joining Tab Smith and then Lucky Millinder in the late '40s.  During the early '50s Powell was in the military where he continued to play and study. After his discharge he established himself in New York and worked as a freelance and studio musician.  During most of the 1950s he worked and recorded with Sy Oliver, Erskine Hawkins, Neal Hefti, Louis Bellson, and Johnny Richards. He also studied at the Juilliard School during this period.  In 1958 he toured Europe with Benny Goodman and played briefly with Woody Herman's band.  During the 1960s he worked chiefly  for ABC TV and also recorded with Buddy Rich.  He made numerous recordings as a studio musician with musicians such as Clark Terry, Ahmad Abdul-Malek, Richard Groove Holmes,  Anthony Braxton, and Dizzy Gillespie.  Seldon  performed as a principal soloist in Gerry Mulligan's big-band at the JVC Jazz Festival in New York in 1987.
